Main Disadvantages

  • Non-DSi compatible after new firmware release

R4i Gold History

The R4i Gold card was intended to be an 'upgradable' version of the R4i-SDHC (the first DS card to be compatible with the DSi that was mass produced). It featured different bonding techniques and other technology to try and ensure its long term survival. Software was also more often released and generally better prepared than the original R4i-SDHC.

Just like the first R4 card, the R4i Gold had a slot on top to fit a Micro-SD or Micro-SDHC card. It could theoretically take up to 32GB Micro-SDHC cards.

DSi 1.4 Firmware Incompatibility

Upon releasing the new Nintendo 1.4 firmware in August 09, people who upgraded their DSi's realised their R4i and R4i Gold cards didn't work anymore. While the Acekard and EZFlash people were able to produce a fix for their cards within a week or two, the R4i Gold team came across unexpected issues that weren't seen before, and were unable to update their card. A new card was produced that was 1.4 compatible, but existing cards were left stuck without DSi 1.4 compatibility.

Why Do You Not Sell the R4i Gold?

The R4i Gold became incompatile with Nintendo DSi consoles after August 2009, when the DSi 1.4 firmware was released. Despite being designed to be upgradable, the R4i Gold turned to disappointment after unseen technical problems prevented the card from eing compatible.
