DSTT Details

The DSTT is effectively a slightly less featured but just-as compatible version of the R4v2. You will notice slightly slower loading times, but compatibility is still good on the card and NDS-Gear are able to offer support. The DSTT has a list-format user interface, making it ideal for playing homebrew applications/games only without multitasking. It is also able to take up to 32GB of memory. However, infrequent (but still there) official support means it may not be compatible with the absolute latest games.

Compatibility: DS and DS Lite
Pros: Cheapest card that can take 4GB+ Micro-SDHC cards
Drawbacks: Infrequent software updates (although still updated periodically) mean it may not be able to play the absolute newest games.
NDS-Gear's Recommendation: For DS card beginners who would like a no-fuss card to play DS games that aren't necessarily the newest.

Buy DSTT Card

The DSTT card was the second card ever to be produced for the Nintendo DS phat and DS Lite consoles after the original R4 card (later to be called the R4v2 but also known as the R4 0815 because of a hardware number). Due to the card being the only R4 alternative at the time, it was incredibly popular as people experimented and tried the different brand.

DSTT Games Menu

The DSTT card was the first DS card in existence to make use of the games-menu style interface for the system menu. Rather than have three options for the user to select like the traditional R4 cards, the DS TT simply lists every single multimedia (video and audio) file as well as homebrew or Nintendo backup game as soon as the system loads. This is slightly less effective for the kind of user who wants to use their DS for other purposes such as Game Boy Advance emulation, but for those who are simply using their card for game backup purposes this is almost perfect for a Nintendo DS.

DSTT Card Build Quality

The dimensional control during manufacture of the DSTT card is quite good, and the card itself is actually slightly lighter than the original R4 or R4v2 card. The rate of failure on the DSTT, while it is a basic card, is incredibly low and GBATemp's 2007 review (it's a pretty old card!) also confirms this.

Similar to the R4 card, the DSTT originally used the spring-slot mechanism to insert the micro SD card into the back of it. However, when the R4 became the R4v2 and removed the spring slot in favour of a push-slot, the DSTT card followed suit. This reduced the failure rate of the card even further since there were fewer components that comprised the card that could potentially fail.

DSTT - The Fastest DS Card

The DSTT card is also the holder of a rather interesting record amongst DS cards that it still holds to this day - it is the fastest DS card in history in terms of loading time! It is only slightly faster than the R4v2 which is no longer in production, but as cards get more complicated these days the loading times for them actually increase, so the DSTT card's loading time has never actually been broken!

Summary of the DSTT Card

To summarise, the DSTT card was among the first DS cards to ever be released for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite consoles, and thanks to its amazingly quick loading time and mechanical sturdiness is still quite a popular card. For people who use a regular Nintendo DS Phat or DS Lite console who want to use a very simple to use and reliable card, NDS-Gear would highly recommend the DSTT.
